Who We Are
A small team.
Serious engineering.
Defteng NZ is a remote engineering practice covering structural and architectural work, built for the New Zealand and Australian markets. We understand NZBC and NZS 3604, the NCC and Australian Standards, wind and seismic zones, and what your council or certifier needs. We deliver it digitally to either country.
Our Approach
Engineering built
for NZ & Australia
We bridge the gap between affordable remote engineering and the rigorous standards that building approval in New Zealand and Australia demands.
Our team has deep expertise in the NZ and Australian building environments: wind zones, seismic design, NZS 3604, NZS 3404, AS/NZS 4600 and AS/NZS 1170, and what your Territorial Authority or certifier expects in a submission. PS1 is available on request, signed by a CPEng (Chartered Professional Engineer) partner.

How We Work
From brief to consent-ready package
Most of our clients are builders, designers, kitset and shed suppliers, and homeowners who need engineering that a council will accept the first time. We keep the process simple and everything in writing.
Because we work remotely, files move quickly by email and there is no site-visit overhead built into the price. Where a project genuinely needs a site inspection or geotechnical input, we tell you up front.
- 1
Brief
Send plans, sketches or the building spec, the site address and anything your council has asked for. We confirm scope and fee before starting.
- 2
Design
We work out wind, snow and seismic loads for the site, then size the structure to NZBC and NZ Standards, or NCC and Australian Standards.
- 3
Documents
Calculations and drawings are prepared to the level your council or certifier expects in a building consent or approval submission.
- 4
Consent
PS1 producer statements are available on request. If the council raises requests for information, we help with the engineering questions.
Service Area
New Zealand and Australia. Remotely.
From Auckland to Queenstown, Sydney to Perth. Geography is no barrier. We deliver consent-ready packages digitally.
